Selective absorbing surfaces for solar thermal panels

The absorber represents the heart of solar thermal panels: it is up to this surface to collect the energy of solar radiation and convert it into heat, without dissipating it into the environment as heat radiation. The efficient the absorption, the greater the heat produced by the panel. TiNOX surfaces, manufactured using PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) technology, are the ideal solution to provide effective answers to these needs.

TiNOX® outdoor is the first highly selective aluminum absorbent surface that can be installed outdoors without any additional transparent covering.Its specially designed and patented coating structure combines weathering resistance with unprecedented thermal radiation losses, allowing significantly higher operating temperatures. In addition to the possibility of increasing the efficiency of existing solar ventilation systems on the market to further improve building climate, it also enables new applications of solar heat to improve building energy performance.

TiNOX energy TiNOX energy

TiNOX® energy surface represents high absorption of sunlight and low emissivity of thermal radiation. The combination of these features, which are stable over time, makes it possible to effectively utilize solar energy while simultaneously minimizing waste heat from the surface by radiation. Due to this selective behavior for different forms of radiation, optimized for the typical working temperature of solar collectors (approx. 100°C), TiNOX® products are able to harvest up to 50 percent more energy than non-selective surfaces.

TiNOX robust TiNOX robust

TiNOX® robust is a highly selective absorbent coating designed for harsh environmental conditions, TiNOX® robust is a highly selective absorbent coating designed for harsh environmental conditions such as can be found in flat solar panels installed near the sea or in industrial environments. Compared with other chromium or black paint-based absorbent coatings designed for such conditions, TiNOX® robust has almost the same optical properties as TiNOX® energy, due to a complex multilayer structure applied by the PVD coating process. Special protective and anti-reflective ceramic layer gives the material good corrosion resistance and near-invisibility of fingerprints. Even in wet environments, the optical performance is maintained.
TiNOX® robust is made on an aluminum substrate up to 1,250 mm wide (copper or stainless steel are available upon request).
